Mustang Alpha and Aurora MR Packages

Choose your Starter Pack

As far as content is concerned, the Mustang Alpha and Aurora MR gamepacks are minimalist and offer only the bare minimum:

  • First Level Hangar (Self Hangar),
  • No Digital Goodies,
  • 3 months insurance,
  • 1000 EUC.

These packages are only of interest if you don't plan to invest more than $65.00 HT in the Star Citizen game and its Squadron 42 single-player campaign, or if you want to opt for a Starter ship such as an Origin 300i or the Avenger Titan knowing that the Mustang package becomes a must if you plan to acquire an Avenger Titan, Origin 300i or 315p, or any other ship worth less than $60.00 HT. Above $60.00, I advise you to look at the other packages...

Upgradeability

There was a time when there was a price difference of $5.00 before tax between the gross value of the Aurora MR and the Mustang Alpha, today this price difference no longer exists and both ships have a gross value of $30.00 before tax. As a result, the two vessels are equal in terms of upgradeability.

Note that on the forums, you may come across discussions telling you to take the Mustang Alpha rather than the Aurora MR so that you don't have to pay this price difference between this two ships, obviously this argument is no longer relevant and make sure that the discussion is recent, or that the author is properly informed.

Aurora MR on loan of the Mustang Alpha

For a long time an Aurora MR was on loan if you took a Mustang Alpha, since the end of December 2019 it seems that this is no longer the case. It may or may not come back. But then you have to make a choice, either you opt for the versatility of the Aurora MR, or you opt for the Mustang Alpha's upgradeability knowing that it is less versatile in game.

Aurora MR vs Mustang Alpha

If you don't plan to invest more than $45/$65 in the game with or without Squadron 42, the Aurora MR is currently the most appropriate choice for its versatility.

Avenger Titan Starter Pack

At the end of 2019, beginning of 2020, a new pack makes its appearance in the shop: the Avenger Titan Starter Pack.

In terms of quality/price ratio, the Avenger Titan is probably my favorite Starter, it's a versatile ship ideal for beginners and relatively affordable (count $30.00 more than a Mustang Alpha).

The fact that CIG decided to offer this ship as a Starter Pack was great news.

The only downside is that it is only available with Star Citizen, if you want the Squadron 42 solo campaign you'll have to buy it separately.

  • Second level Hangar (Aeroview Hangar),
  • No digital goodies,
  • 6 months insurance,
  • 1,000 UEC.

If you're aiming for the Avenger Titan, you'll have to make a choice that will depend mainly on the Squadron 42 solo campaign.

Either you opt for a Mustang + SQ42 pack and upgrade the Mustang to a Titan but you'll lose 3 months of insurance and only have the Self Hangar, or you go directly to the Titan pack but you'll have to buy the solo campaign separately and probably pay full price for this.

Referral

It's never too late to remember that a referral allows you to benefit from a bonus of 5,000 UEC in play, regardless of the package you choose.

Don't forget to specify a referral code when you create your account, because once your account is created it will be too late.

If you don't have a code, you can use mine: STAR-QP2M-YLS3

Starting Gear

Once in the game, you will start with a suit, helmet, handgun and a magazine, a medpack and a UEC total that can be zeroed. The UEC that are associated with your Starter pack will only be awarded to you at the time of the official launch of the game, until then you will only have the 5000 UEC from your referral.

This equipment is the same for everyone regardless of your starter pack.

No pack offers equipment (weapons or armour), however it is possible to acquire weapons and armour via the subscribers' shop. But it requires a minimum payment of $10.00 HT to have access to this shop. Nevertheless, I don't recommend acquiring equipment or even UEC online, you'll have plenty of time to do so once you're in the game.
